results of the qualification draw – UNIAN
The draw for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification took place at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, Switzerland. A total of 54 UEFA member countries were allocated to 5 pots.
The first included the UEFA Nations League quarter-finalists Denmark, Germany, Croatia, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Along with them in the basket were also 4 countries with the best rating – England, Switzerland, Belgium and Austria.
The Ukrainian team was in the second basket during the draw. As a result, Ukraine’s opponents in Group D were France/Croatia (the winner of the confrontation), Iceland and Azerbaijan.
There was no “death” group as such in the selection for the World Championship. All groups contain both strong teams and those of a lower level.
