Romania closes dozens of checkpoints on the border: when and why it will happen
The Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country reported that it is about checkpoints on the border with Hungary and Bulgaria.
In Romania, as of January 1, 2025, 30 checkpoints on its borders will cease to operate. It is about the abolition of border control at entry/exit to other EU countries due to the acquisition of the status of a full member of the Schengen zone.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Romania announced that 30 checkpoints on the border with Bulgaria and Hungary will be closed on the first day of the new year, but random checks of documents can still be carried out.
The relevant decision, according to which Romania and Bulgaria were accepted into the Schengen zone, was adopted by the Council of the EU on December 12. This became possible after Austria removed its veto on the accession of these countries to the visa-free European space.
