Russia keeps both major military bases in Syria – Reuters – World
The issue of Russia's military presence in Syria and past agreements between Bashar al-Assad's government and Moscow have not been discussed yet.
After the fall of the dictatorial regime of Bashar al-Assad in Syria, to which the Kremlin provided military and political support, Russia is trying to keep both of its large military bases in the country. These are the Khmeimim air base in Latakia province and the Tartus naval base on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.
This was reported by Reuters with reference to four Syrian officials.
According to the Syrian military and security sources, Russia is withdrawing some heavy equipment and senior officers who will go to Moscow. But the troops at the two main bases remain.
