Russian dictator Vladimir Putin approved the updated nuclear doctrine of the Russian Federation. It provides that the decision to use nuclear weapons is made by the President of Russia, and aggression against the Russian Federation by any country from the military bloc will be considered as aggression of the entire bloc. In addition, aggression against Russia or its allies by a non-nuclear state with the participation or support of a nuclear state is now considered a joint attack. The doctrine also provides that Russia can use nuclear weapons in the event of a critical threat to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of itself and Belarus.
