The European Union has significantly increased payments for Russian fuel purchases in India, helping Moscow fill its military budget. This is stated in a report by the Center for the Study of Democracy (CSD).

From January to August 2024, the EU bought nearly 20 percent more fuel from three major Indian refineries handling Russian oil than last year, analysts said. This comes despite EU attempts to impose price caps of $60 a barrel and ban direct imports of Russian oil into the bloc.
