Researchers accidentally recorded a lone bottlenose dolphin in the Baltic Sea talking to itself. LiveScience writes about this, citing a study published in the journal Bioacoustics.
It is noted that bottlenose dolphins are social animals that usually live in schools. But in September 2019, a lone dolphin appeared south of the island of Funen, Denmark. The area is outside the normal range of this dolphin species and no other individuals have been observed in the area.
Researchers set up underwater recording devices to see how the presence of a lone dolphin would affect the porpoises, but were shocked when they heard how much noise the dolphin made.
