Researchers have discovered wooden structures that are approximately 476,000 years old, and they don't look like random sticks thrown together.
They look as if they have been carefully shaped and joined together, perhaps forming a platform or foundation for a dwelling. This type of wood processing goes far beyond what was expected to be done by people who lived so long ago, Earth.com writes.
Professor Larry Barham from the University of Liverpool and his team identified a wedge, a digging stick, a tool-cut log and a notched branch.
