The study showed how physical activity affects life expectancy.
People over 40 could live 5.3 years longer if their level of physical activity corresponded to the most active 25% of the population.
These conclusions are based on a study published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine, writes The Washington Post.
Scientists analyzed data on mortality for 2017 and combined it with information on the level of physical activity. For this, the results of the National Health and Nutrition Survey of 2003–2006 were used. To compare the different types of exercise, they were all converted to the equivalent of hours of walking at a speed of 3 miles per hour (about 5 km/h).
