Scientists from Italy, Spain and Denmark have discovered that types of the SI gene affect the craving for sweets in people, Sports.kz reports with reference to “SE”.
The results of their study were published in the journal Gastroenterology.
Research suggests that UK residents get 9-12% of their daily calories from free sugars, including sucrose. Moreover, up to 79% of the population regularly snacks on sweets up to three times a day. However, data shows that not all people digest sugar equally easily. Around 10% of Britons suffer from irritable bowel syndrome, which is associated with a genetic disorder in the processing of sucrose.
