South Korea has completed development of a missile interceptor to counter the threat from the DPRK

The new addition will strengthen the US Patriot system and the domestic Cheongung II medium-range interceptor, which are currently in service.

South Korea said it has completed development of a new ballistic missile interceptor, adding another layer to the defense systems deployed to defend against missile threats from neighboring North Korea.

The move comes after the North designated South Korea a “hostile state” and no longer a partner in reunification, reversing decades of policy and sharply escalating tensions with hostile rhetoric for a year, Reuters reported.
