It is a guided projectile of the M712 Copperhead type, which has a caliber of 155 mm and is guided by a laser beam. The projectile, which was created and mass-produced in the USA in the 1970s, is essentially a representative of the first generation of guided projectiles.
For the first time, such shells were used by the US Army during the operation “Desert Storm”, a total of 90 such munitions were fired.
The projectile could be used to hit a metal communication tower east of Suja, three such guided projectiles were spent on the target. Such projectiles were fired from the M777 howitzer.
