Experts have discovered genetic changes in the bird flu virus that will make it easier for it to infect cells of the upper respiratory tract of a person.
Recently, the first case of a severe form of bird flu in humans was recorded in the United States. On Thursday, December 26, federal health officials reported “disturbing results” from tests taken from the patient. Mutations were found in some of the genetic samples of the H5N1 virus that could theoretically help it infect humans more easily.
