The majority of deputies spoke in favor of this decision during the roll-call vote. 394 deputies refused to trust Scholz, 207 members of the Bundestag supported the chancellor, 116 abstained.
Even before the vote of confidence, CDU leader Friedrich Merz rejected the possibility of creating a coalition with the “Greens” led by chancellor candidate Robert Habek. Merz criticized Habek's plans to raise taxes and increase redistribution, calling the politician “the face of the economic crisis in Germany.”
