The fall of the Assad regime in Syria
After the recent events, the influence of the Russian Federation in Africa will not be so significant.
Russia has lost a key area of influence in the Middle East, including logistical bases. The main reason for the Russian fiasco in Syria is Putin's destruction of Prigozhin and the Wagner group as such.
Andriy Kovalenko, head of the CSDP of the NSDC, wrote about this.
As Kovalenko points out, it was Prigozhin who over the years built the system of Russian influence in the Middle East and Africa. Syria was the key to Africa thanks to the bases of the Russian Federation and the exit of the fleet to the Mediterranean Sea.
“Putin got scared and killed Prigozhin, after which the whole system collapsed,” he writes.
Now the role of Russia in Africa will also weaken. Now Moscow is trying to blame Iran for draining Syria.
