The Greens in Germany have chosen a candidate for chancellor


Robert Habek received 96.5 percent of the votes of his fellow party members.

On Sunday, Germany's Green Party selected Vice Chancellor Robert Habeck as its chancellor candidate at its congress, in preparation for a snap federal election in February 2025.

The absolute majority of congress delegates voted for his candidacy – Habek received 96.5 percent of the votes of his fellow party members.

In his speech at the conference, Robert Habek warned against the possible return to power of a grand coalition consisting of the Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD), to which Olaf Scholz belongs, and the leading opposition force – the bloc of Christian Democratic and Christian Social Unions (CDU/CSU ).
