The homeowner, performing routine work in his yard, made a stunning discovery – the jaw of a mastodon.

A homeowner near Scotchtown, New York, found the teeth covered in leaves from a plant growing on his property. Continuing to dig, the resident discovered two more petrified teeth, which were only a few centimeters underground.
“When I found the teeth and examined them in my hands, I realized that it was something special and decided to call the experts,” said the man, whose name has not been released.
The museum and SUNY Orange Community College (SUNY Orange) excavated and discovered a complete and well-preserved jaw of an adult mastodon, as well as a fragment of a rib and a toe bone.
