The NATO Secretary General is demanding an increase in defense spending to Cold War-era levels
The Alliance's current plans are for defense spending of no less than 2% of GDP, but eight NATO members have not reached even that figure.

This was stated on Thursday, December 12, during his first speech in Brussels by Mark Rutte, Secretary General of the defense alliance, Politico reports.
“It is time to move to a wartime mindset and increase our defense production and defense spending,” he stressed.
The increase in cash, Rutte said, is needed to revive the defense industry, which must ramp up production to counter the military threat from Russia.
