The oldest alphabet in the world has been found

It existed 500 years before the previous find in the Middle East.

Researchers have discovered evidence of what they call the world's oldest alphabet, which is believed to have existed in the Middle East hundreds of years before other ancient scripts.

The New York Post writes about it.

The first human discovery, dated to 2400 BC, was made by analyzing clay fragments during a 16-year archaeological dig at the Bronze Age Syrian city of Tell Umm al-Marra, east of Aleppo.

“Previously, scholars believed that the alphabet was invented in or near Egypt sometime after 1900 BC,” said researcher Glenn Schwartz of Johns Hopkins University. “But our artifacts are older and come from a different area on the map, suggesting that the alphabet may have a very different origin story than we thought.”
