The oldest bird in the world laid an egg at the age of 74 years (video) – UNIAN
The oldest bird in the world laid an egg at the age of 74 years. Wisdom, a Laysan albatross that breeds in Hawaii, has outlived many males, as well as the biologist who first banded her in 1956.
The US Fish and Wildlife Service announced the surprise egg sighting on X, formerly Twitter, writing: “Wisdom, the world's oldest known wild bird, is back with a new mate and has just laid another egg.”
John Plissner, chief wildlife biologist, called the egg “a special treat” and said officials were “optimistic” it would hatch.
Like other albatrosses, Wisdom returns to the same location every year to lay her eggs.
