At the end of November 2024, Joao Marinho Neto entered the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest man in the world. The Brazilian recently turned 112 years old; he celebrated his birthday in a nursing home among friends and caring staff.

The man was born on October 5, 1912 in Maranguapí, Ceara state. He was previously recognized as the oldest living man in Brazil and Latin America. Joao grew up in a family of farmers and spent most of his life outside the city. The boy became independent early: at the age of 4 he began to help his father in the field, and also took on any feasible work.
