Pope Francis in his Christmas speech called for negotiations between Ukraine and Russia to end the war. According to Reuters, in his Christmas address “Urbi et Orbi” (to the city and the world), Francis directly mentioned the war in Ukraine and called for “the courage necessary to open the door to negotiations.”
He also called for “gestures of dialogue and meeting to achieve a just and lasting peace.”
Francis also called for an end to conflicts – political, social or military – in Lebanon, Mali, Mozambique, Haiti, Venezuela and Nicaragua. He also called for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war and for the release of the remaining Israeli hostages held by Hamas.
