Pope Francis visited the French island of Corsica for the first time, where he offered prayers to the “Blessed Virgin Mary” — for “the long-awaited peace for the Ukrainian and Russian peoples” — calling Ukrainians and Russians “brothers.”
“They are brothers, cousins. Let them find a common language! War is always a defeat. Peace to the whole world!” the Pope said, Vatican News writes. Although earlier in his prayers he mentioned exclusively the Ukrainian people, periodically meeting with Ukrainian figures, including President of Ukraine Vladimir Zelensky and First Lady Elena Zelenskaya.
