Georgian President Salome Zurabishvili refused to resign from office and called for new parliamentary elections to be called within a week.
She made this statement after Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said that she would be forced to leave her post on December 29. The politician added that he is interested in where the president wants to live – behind bars or in freedom, SOVA quotes him.
Zurabishvili wrote in the microblog X that she will remain faithful to the Georgian army, the constitution and the people, and the only formula for getting out of the current crisis is to call new elections:
“This Constitution, although trampled under foot, stands strong, just like Georgia. I will defend it and remain true to it! Georgia never gives up when it stands up for what is right.”
