The privacy of postal items is under threat: a new draft law was registered in the Council


The legislative initiative involves giving the police permission to open any mail even without the knowledge of the recipient or the sender.

A group of People's Deputies of Ukraine from the “Servant of the People” faction has registered a draft law in the Verkhovna Rada, which proposes to grant law enforcement agencies the right to open and seize any citizens' mail in post offices. At the same time, they can not only not inform the recipient about the intervention, but also prohibit employees of the postal operator from disclosing information about such actions.

The corresponding bill No. 12294 was registered in the Verkhovna Rada on December 6.

The draft law proposes to amend the Criminal Procedure Code of Ukraine in order to bring its individual provisions into line with the law “On Postal Communications”. In particular, in Art. 258 of the KPKU, which regulates…
