The Slovaks sent requests to participate in the war on the side of Ukraine – the president responded
Peter Pellegrini received requests from Slovak citizens in June 2024.
Slovak President Peter Pellegrini did not grant any of the four requests of Slovak citizens for permission to serve in the Armed Forces.

Without the consent of the head of state, it is considered a criminal offense and involves imprisonment.
Several approvals of Slovak requests were previously given by the former president of the Slovak state, Zuzana Chaputova, who was in office during the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
Meanwhile, Pellegrini supports the position of the current Prime Minister Robert Fizo to end the supply of arms to Ukraine from the state reserve, although in the past he supported military aid to Kyiv.
