A woman in Thailand has been sentenced to death in a trial accused of murdering 14 friends with cyanide.

On Wednesday, November 20, a court in Bangkok found 36-year-old Sararata Rangsivutaporn guilty of adding poison to the food and drinks of a wealthy friend during their trip together last year.

The friend's relatives refused to accept that she had died of natural causes, and an autopsy revealed traces of cyanide in her body. Police arrested Sararat and discovered other similar deaths since 2015. One person she also tried to kill survived.

Police say Sararat had a gambling addiction and killed friends to whom she owed money and then stole their jewelry and valuables.
