Extreme solar storms are a very dangerous and, fortunately, rare phenomenon. A team of scientists from the University of Arizona found that the last such event that covered the Earth happened on the Sun in 664 BC, that is, almost 2,700 years ago.
The results of the study were reported on the website of the University of Arizona.
“This year, the northern lights were seen much further south on Earth than usual, and photos of the colorful hues flooded social media. Now imagine the aurora borealis hundreds of times brighter — except no one will be able to photograph it because of the flow of particles , directed from the Sun, will instantly turn smartphones into bricks,” the article says.
