Trump is seeking to fill senior law enforcement and intelligence positions with loyalists to protect himself from possible future scrutiny.
Donald Trump announced that he plans to appoint a person loyal to him – former Homeland Security official Cash Patel – to the post of head of the FBI.
According to Reuters, with this statement Trump made it clear that he intends to remove current FBI Director Christopher Wray, whose powers are due to expire only in 2027.
Patel, an adviser to the director of national intelligence and the secretary of defense during Trump's first term, previously called for stripping the FBI of its intelligence-gathering role and purging its ranks of any employee who refuses to support Trump's agenda.
