The operation in Syria reflects Ukraine's attempt to “expand the battlefield” and harm the Russians in areas where they will not be ready for it.
Ukraine provided support to the Syrian rebels who overthrew the regime of Bashar al-Assad, in particular through the supply of drones and the assistance of UAV operators.
This was reported by The Washington Post columnist David Ignatius, citing sources familiar with Ukraine's military operations abroad.
According to Ignatius, Ukrainian special services sent 20 drone operators and 150 FPV drones to Syria about four to five weeks ago. This aid was intended to support the group “Hayat Tahrir al-Sham” (HTS), which became a key force in the overthrow of Assad.
