Kyiv wants NATO to issue a formal invitation to Ukraine to join as early as next week. Reuters writes about this.
The publication received a letter from Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrei Sibiga, in which he called on his NATO colleagues to extend an invitation to Kyiv during a meeting in Brussels next week.
In particular, Ukraine states that it agrees with the impossibility of joining NATO while the war is going on. But granting an invitation now, Kyiv believes, will demonstrate to Russian President Vladimir Putin that one of his main goals – preventing Ukraine from becoming a NATO member – cannot be achieved.
