Experts expect that the “net” return of migrants to Ukraine will begin in 2026.
Due to the long war and energy shortages, people will continue to leave Ukraine en masse. Moreover, the forecast for the outflow of people for 2024 has been worsened to 500 thousand people (previously the figure was 400 thousand). The National Bank reports this in its “Inflation Report” for October.
“In the summer of 2024, the risk of a greater outflow of migrants abroad than previously expected was realized due to a very difficult energy situation. Therefore, the assumption regarding the net outflow of external migrants in 2024 is worsened compared to previous estimates (up to about 500 thousand people),” it says in the central bank's report.
