Renowned boxing agent, consultant and insider Rick Glaser explains why the undefeated British middleweight Hamza Shiraz (21-0, 17 KOs) was excluded from the WBO rankings in his weight category, Sports.kz reports.
Shiraz was ranked first and was the mandatory challenger for the WBO world title, which he holds Zhanibek Alimkhanuly (16-0, 11 KOs) from Kazakhstan. In the November edition of the ratings, Hamza not only lost his position as a contender, but is no longer in the top 15 at all.
“The new WBO President Gustavo Olivieri has introduced several new rules. According to one of them, if you refuse a title fight with the WBO world champion, then you are completely excluded from their ranking.
