American scientists have discovered that polymer-based tea bags release millions of plastic particles that can penetrate human intestinal cells, Sports.kz reports with reference to SE.
The results of their research were published in the journal Chemosphere (CS).
According to experts, when tea bags made from various materials such as nylon-6, polypropylene and cellulose are brewed, large amounts of micro- and nanoparticles are released. They analyzed and assessed how these particles interact with intestinal cells. The study results showed that mucus-producing cells intensively absorb microplastics.
