The agency said 51-year-old IRGC agent Farhad Shakeri was tasked with developing a plan to assassinate Trump.
US authorities have charged in absentia 51-year-old Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) agent Farhad Shakeri. Investigators say he “led a network of associates to carry out Iran's plans to assassinate its targets, including President-elect Donald Trump,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said.
The Ministry of Justice does not provide details of the assassination attempt, but it is known that it was planned for October 7. Shakeri is a native of Iran who has lived in the United States since childhood. He was expelled from the country in 2008 after serving a 14-year sentence on robbery charges.
