Volcanic eruption in Japan – ashfall threatens people
A column of ash and smoke from the volcano rises thousands of meters into the sky.
Explosive eruptions have begun at the Sakurajima volcano in Japan. This is reported by The Watchers.
The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) said the volcano released a plume of ash and smoke that rose 3,000 meters into the sky.
Forecasters, meanwhile, warn that ashfall is expected in the southeast of the volcano. According to the forecast, even small volcanic rocks can be carried by winds up to 7 km.
The JMA declared alert level three out of five and restricted access to the volcano's peaks.
Local residents are asked to exercise caution as there is a risk of fast-moving streams of hot gas and falling volcanic rocks. Ash fall is expected…
