War in Ukraine – North Korea handed over a new batch of huge howitzers to the Russians – UNIAN

The M1989 self-propelled gun is the only 170 mm howitzer in the world.

At the beginning of the war, the Russian Federation transferred about 2 thousand tracked howitzers to Ukraine, and during the 34 months of the war, the occupiers lost at least 800 of them.

According to Forbes, the production of new howitzers is now significantly behind demand. The once huge stockpile of old Soviet-era howitzers has been reduced perhaps by half. Amid a shortage of mobile artillery in the Russian Federation, North Korea is handing over its howitzers to the occupiers for the second time in six weeks. They were spotted while traveling by train.

The publication notes that this does not so much demonstrate the close relations between the countries, but rather shows the dependence of the Russians on North Korean weapons. As you know, M1989 howitzers fire 170mm shells, which is an unusual caliber.
