Watching TV during this time can lead to stroke and dementia – Health
A team from Tianjin Medical University in China found that watching TV for five hours a day increases the risk of developing dementia by almost 50%, reports Sports.kz with reference to the “Championship”.
Their study was published in the Journal of the American Medical Directors Association.
Experts analyzed data from 407 thousand people aged 37 to 73 years from the UK Biobank project – 40 thousand of them underwent brain scans. None of the participants had a diagnosed brain disorder at the start of the study.
During the 13-year follow-up period, 5,227 people developed dementia, 6,822 had a stroke, and 2,308 were diagnosed with Parkinson's disease. Participants watched an average of 2.7 hours of television per day.
