One of the main risks is the development of obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSA), in which breathing periodically stops during sleep. This causes oxygen deprivation and increases the risk of cardiovascular disease, hypertension, stroke and even sudden cardiac arrest. In addition, snoring disrupts the quality of sleep, causing chronic fatigue, decreased concentration and memory impairment.
