Mark Mann, professor of ancient Greek history and archeology at Pennsylvania State University, said he has deciphered an ancient, badly damaged inscription on a 2,600-year-old monument in Turkey.
According to Live Science, this monument is engraved with images of lions and sphinxes. It is known as “Arslan Kaya”, which translates to “lion rock”.
It turned out that the name of “Matheran” is written on the monument – a Phrygian goddess who flourished in the territory of modern Turkey from approximately 1200 to 600 BC. The people who lived then knew her “simply as Mother.” there were many ancient cultures that revered her.
“The Greeks knew her as the Mother of the Gods,” Mann said, noting that the Romans called her “Magna Mater,” or “Great Mother.”
