Which vegetables are actually fruits according to the botanical classification – Miscellaneous
Biologists have named 4 fruits that we traditionally call vegetables.
Tomatoes
Encyclopaedia Britannica states that fruits are the fruits of flowering plants that have appeared after they have been pollinated, while vegetables are the edible parts of the crop, such as leaves, stems, and roots. However, tomatoes occupy an uncertain place in this classification of plants. Technically, their fruits can be called fruits, because they develop from a flower and grow on grassy bushes. However, despite the botanical classification, the tomato is still traditionally considered a vegetable.
Cucumbers
According to botanical classification, cucumber also belongs to fruits. It is quite interesting that in Asian countries cucumber is used as a dessert. It belongs to the gourd plant family and is considered a false berry with a fruit bed, although it is not sweet at all.
