EMDR (from English. Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing – eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) is a psychotherapeutic method developed by an American psychologist Francine Shapiro in the 1980s. She accidentally noticed that moving her eyes helped her tolerate anxious thoughts more easily, and began to explore this effect. Based on her observations, Shapiro created a technique that subsequently received scientific confirmation and became a popular tool for working with psychological trauma, providing relief for working with difficult memories.
