Why events in Syria are important for Ukraine – UNIAN

For the first time in four years, Syrian rebels have launched a major offensive against President Bashar al-Assad's forces. According to Western media, they managed to capture several settlements and eliminate a high-ranking Iranian commander while advancing towards the city of Aleppo. This escalation after a fairly long pause in hostilities can be explained by several reasons. The main one is that due to the approaching possible negotiations, in which everyone is involved (and there are even more key players in Syria than in Ukraine), the parties are trying to improve their negotiating positions.
