Finland prevented several more serious sabotages due to the timely detention of a Russian tanker from the so-called “shadow fleet”, which could continue to destroy underwater communications.
This was stated by an expert from the Maritime Law Research Center in Norway, Alexander Lott, informs Yle.
He noted that the tanker could have continued to damage underwater communications if Finland had not stopped it.
“If the ship was allowed to pass further, the Estlink 1 cable connecting Finland and Estonia and located next to the damaged C-Lion 1 would also be at risk. And then the Balticconnector gas pipeline and many other underwater cables would be in the way,” he explained. Lott.
