President Zelensky tried to stop Olaf Scholz from calling Russian dictator Putin.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy tried to dissuade German Chancellor Olaf Scholz from talking to Putin by phone, warning that it would reduce the Russian leader's isolation and prolong the war.
Reuters writes about this after Scholz's conversation with Putin, which took place on November 15.
A Reuters source in Kyiv said that Scholz, a close ally of Ukraine during the war with Russia, had informed Zelensky in advance of his plans to speak with the Russian leader.
“The chancellor told our president that he plans to talk to Putin. The president said it would only help Putin by reducing his isolation. Putin doesn't want real peace, he wants a break,” the source said.
